Hey mama!!

Let’s talk about creating a cleaning schedule that doesn’t have you slaving over your house all day.

We both know how it gets—trying to clean the entire house in one day is exhausting and takes time away from things you actually want to be doing. Whether that’s working on your business, spending intentional time with your kids, or just resting, you deserve more ease.

I’ve been using a simple cleaning schedule where I only clean four days a week—Monday through Thursday—and Friday is my catch-up day for anything I missed or didn’t get to.

I actually asked ChatGPT to help me map out a routine based on the areas I need to keep tidy. Here’s what it looks like:

My Simple Cleaning Schedule

Monday – Laundry

Tuesday – Floors (vacuum and mop all the floors)

Wednesday – Kitchen (check the fridge, take out trash if needed, wipe down appliances and counters)

Thursday – Bathrooms (clean the tub, toilet, counters, mirror, switch out towels)

Friday – Catch-up / Tidy day

Why This Cleaning Schedule Works

Since implementing this routine, it takes me about 1 to 2 hours max per day to take care of the house.

I usually clean while my kids are in an independent play window and don’t need as much of my attention.

I still do light pick-ups throughout the day—cleaning up after messes, wiping down surfaces, etc.—but I’m no longer running myself ragged trying to clean everything in one day.

It’s been a major mental health booster too. I’m not panicking when someone comes over unexpectedly because the house is being maintained daily. Plus, I’ve found that cleaning actually takes less time now because I’m more mindful about putting things back where they belong.

Tips for Creating Your Own Cleaning Schedule

  1. Think about the order of your tasks – For example, laundry is on Mondays for me. But if I need to finish laundry on Tuesday, it’s not too overwhelming because Tuesday is just floors. Try to pair “heavier” cleaning days with lighter ones to give yourself grace.
  2. Make space for real life – Some days won’t go as planned (we both know that’s the SAHM life), so give yourself breathing room in your schedule.
  3. Pick a cleaning time that works for your rhythm – I like cleaning in the mornings—my kids are full from breakfast, happy, and content with toys, each other, or a show. If you have a newborn, maybe cleaning happens during nap time or while baby wearing. The key is to find your window and stick with it. Over time, your kids will get used to the rhythm too.

This system has really helped me as a SAHM. It’s given me more time in my day, more peace in my mind, and more presence in my home. Try it for yourself and make sure to tailor it to what works for you. The goal here is to create a system that makes life easier, not harder.

If you want to put your house on a system, Check out this Home Management System Template. Keep up with meals, appointments, finances and your cleaning schedule all in one place.

Another thing that has helped me with cleaning is using tools that make the process easier. Here’s a link to some of my favorites., check it them out here.
