3 Tips for running a business as a SAHM
Hey mama!!
When it comes to building a business and staying home with your babies, there’s one thing I’ve noticed (and honestly, struggled with too)
We start businesses without thinking about what truly matters to us—our values and priorities.
It’s easy to get caught up in what the next mama is doing or to compare yourself to someone who doesn’t have kids yet. You jump on the hamster wheel trying to build a business that doesn’t leave space for your home, your babies, or your marriage.
And that, friend, leads to burnout—and makes you question if this whole “working from home” thing is even possible.
So in this post, I’m walking you through three steps that will help you build a business that supports your home—not one that pulls you away from it.
Tip 1: Acknowledge the season of life you are in
Where are you right now?
Are you in the newborn trenches?
Do you have toddlers running wild?
Are you moving?
What does your day-to-day look like before the business comes into play?
Do you have help? A village?
Does your husband work long hours?
Are your kids in daycare or at home?
Do they nap—or have they given up on that dream? 😅
Sit with those questions. Be honest with yourself. Because once you are, you’ll start to see what needs to shift, pause, or even go completely.
When I did this step, I realized the business I was trying to build just wasn’t sustainable for the season I was in. I didn’t have the capacity to be on Instagram all day or meet with clients every week. I needed something slower—something that worked in the background so I could care for my home, raise my babies, nurture my marriage, and still have time for myself.
Tip 2: Find tools and systems that support the life you’re building
After you assess what’s working and what’s not, it becomes clear what systems or routines you need to help get to where you want to be.
For me, when I pivoted away from being a Virtual Assistant, I saw how much of my day was spent pouring into client work—and how little was left for my family or myself. I was constantly behind on dinner, my house felt chaotic, and I was drained.
So I created a home system to help me keep things under control and get some time back. It made home tasks easier and less stressful.

Once I had that in place, I could clearly see how much time I had left for business—and what type of business would actually fit. That’s when I started pivoting into blogging and Pinterest.
Tip 3: Implement the system ( and tweak as needed)
Now it’s time to put it all into practice—and make changes if something isn’t working. Systems should grow with you as your life and your kids grow. What worked in one season might need adjusting in the next.
Some foundational things to put in place:
- A meal planning system you can actually stick with
- A cleaning routine that doesn’t have you scrubbing all day
- A simple way to track appointments and your to-dos.

Lastly…
These 3 tips? You can come back to them again and again. Every time your season shifts, they’ll help you reset and realign.
Building a business from home with littles around is hard. I won’t sugarcoat that. But trying to build one that doesn’t fit your life is even harder.
Your business should support the life you have, not force you to abandon it.
